Ya it has a Hemi!!!

Picked this MTD 5/24 up from a road side trash pile. the engine was a mess and parts missing but I figured it was steel and heavy to boot glad I had my ramps and a block and tackle in the truck, I could sell it for scrap.

Contacted a friend who makes a good living working on small engines for people and doing other repair work. He didn't have any of the parts I needed to put the engine back together and said that since the company was now out of business parts would be expensive if I could find them for a Engine I was not sure about.

I put it in a back corner for a couple of years.

Then I decided I should do some thing with it or scrap it. Decided to put a new motor on it since every thing seemed to work as it should other than the engine.

I bought a Harbor Freight Predator 212cc engine the non Hemi one. Note the stamped steel valve cover the tell tale it isn't a hemi.

Decided to put it on my log splitter instead of the snow blower as I needed to do some major work on the splitters engine.

I went back a month later and bought another Predator 212cc engine but this time got the Hemi version.

Removed the old engine and matched the shaft size and height.

Looks good mounted, did have to rework the chute crank to clear the valve cover on the Hemi, Note the cast alum valve cover a sure sign is a Hemi. Also installed new belts.

Took the chute off so I could install an impeller close out kit I made.

Also decided to put new tires on it. those little 6 inch rims are a devil to mount tires on. I was just about ready to go buy a mini tire changer when I had a brain storm and they slid on.

Made a couple brackets to move the chute crank where I could use it with heavy gloves on and raise it higher up to be handier.

Got to use it today to remove 8 inches of snow and close to 2 inches of slush from the drive. Pitched the crap 25 to 30 feet away and I had not even coated the chute with snow slick. Worked just great. I do think I will rework the chute crank next spring/summer as I do not like left hand crank the way it is now.
